Three games to look forward to tonight in League One November 7th. Here are my betting picks and thoughts ahead of them.

Tight Shrews
Shrewsbury Town v Bolton Wanderers

Shrewsbury scored three goals for the first time this season on Saturday when they beat Colchester 3-2 and were victorious in the first FA Cup proper round. Matty Taylor’s team have struggled for an attacking spark throughout the League One campaign, but will be encouraged by getting in on the fun by finally scoring goals and creating chances. They have had injury concerns, so to see that Jordan Shipley was instrumental for them as he was moved further up the pitch will be a pleasing thing for Taylor.

Their opponents tonight are Bolton Wanderers, who are a better side than Shrews, to put it bluntly. They are 12 points ahead of them (with a game less played), and are way better on xG numbers as well. The Trotters have a better squad, a more experienced and higher quality manager, and simply better players in all areas of the pitch.

Shrewsbury’s only hope of getting something in the game on Tuesday night is by being very robust defensively and keeping Bolton out. Outscoring them is simply not realistic. I think this game should be quite cagey, with Bolton having most of the ball and creating the better opportunities. My pick here is under 2.5 goals at 1.73, although I think it’s as low as it can go without losing any value. I wouldn’t touch it below 1.70.

Latics’ Home Comfort
Wigan Athletic v Peterborough United

This is the most open game of League One on November 7th, although the betting market doesn’t think so. Peterborough are heavy favourites when they travel to Wigan, and I can understand why.

What I cannot understand, however, is that they are priced at 2.05 to win it. It’s away from home against a team who were relegated from the league above earlier this year. Yes, Wigan are in a mess off the pitch and haven’t been all that great on it, but they are still a capable side and one that should – and will, in my opinion – finish way clear off any relegation worries.

This will be Wigan’s sixth clash in just 18 days, so fatigue after a very hectic schedule must be a worry to take into consideration here. They have, in fairness, won four out of their last five games – all by two goals to nil, and the form has definitely picked up after a bad spell a month or so ago.

I like Peterborough United as a team and are not comfortable betting against them in a game where things can become quite open. It’s a game that I think the value is on Wigan’s side, but I’m uncertain when it comes to players’ availability and injury situations. If line-ups suggest that Wigan are fielding a strong team, I’d consider betting against Posh at the current price (2.05 for an away win).

My Best Bet of The Night
Reading v Bristol Rovers

After several years of chaos off the pitch, Reading’s performances on the pitch are starting to reflect the state of affairs off it. There’s been a steady decline for some years now, but sitting rock bottom of League One is simply a catastrophe for such a proud football club. Ruben Selles has done a great job with the team, but they are so young and inexperienced as a group and at this level. They play an expansive way and sorely lack some experienced heads with quality as well, which I think makes them really vulnerable against stronger teams.

I think Bristol Rovers are a stronger team. Joey Barton was axed from the manager job a few weeks back, and caretaker (Barton’s former assistant) Andy Mangan is still in charge. He’s having a caretaker stint without much to lose, as he continues to set his team up to attack and be fearless. A 7-2 win against Whitby in the FA Cup on Saturday was definitely entertaining for the fans, at the very least.

Rovers’ attacking firepower should be lethal in League One. I think Aaron Collins is top quality in the third tier, and I think John Marquis, Chris Martin, Jevani Brown, Anthony Evans and Luke Thomas are the same. In my opinion, a team with so many weapons going forward should pose a constant threat for anyone, but especially a fragile and weak Reading side. My best bet of the midweek is a Bristol Rovers win at 2.40, but feel free to pick the draw no bet option (or +0 asian handicap, which is the same bet) at 1.75-ish.

Conclusion

My two bets for League One November 7th is Bristol Rovers to win (2.40) and under 2.5 goals in Shrewsbury v Bolton (1.73).
