Nine games to choose from for this weekend’s League One round 29. Here are my thoughts and best bets ahead of it.

14 In A Row?
Bristol Rovers v Blackpool

Both teams to score has landed in each of Bristol Rovers’ thirteen last game, which is some statistical quirk. Under manager Matt Taylor they are as open as they’ve always been, now combined with a bit more of an attacking spark: they’ve averaged approximately two goals scored per game under his leadership, which is as expected for such a talented squad of players. Can the run continue?

I think so. Both Blackpool and aforementioned Bristol Rovers played tough cup games in midweek, which eliminates any fatigue advantage for one of the teams. Both also played at home, which relieves the travelling load. I’ve watched some Blackpool this season, and with players like Kyle Joseph, Jordan Rhodes, CJ Hamilton, etc., I expect them to create chances at the “Mem” (Memorial Stadium).

1.73 for both teams to score is a very tempting price, and one that I think we have to take. I also like over 2.5 goals at 1.93.

Corners – Again!?
Burton Albion v Charlton Athletic

My obsessive nature with taking corners in Burton Albion games have paid off before, but this season it really hasn’t. I want to keep going, and this is why.

I watched both of these teams play at the weekend (although Burton technically played on Monday), just to make sure that I prepared properly for potentially taking a bet in this game. What did I see?

Well, Charlton Athletic impressed massively in the 2nd half against Peterborough United, where they created more chances than most teams manage against a very strong Peterborough side. They were unlucky not to score more than one goal, although the first half was very unconvincing. I have been impressed by the players they’ve brought in during the window so far, and especially Conor Coventry came in and did a top job against Peterborough. I also think they play in a corner “friendly” way, with a high tempo and tricky wingers out wide.

Burton are Burton, but now under a new manager. They have more or less the same players, but the style of play will be different, if we are to trust new boss Martin Paterson’s words. He says that he wants his team to approach any game with a view to win, and that he encourages his players to take on opponents and dribble. That sounds like open football to me.

Conclusion

Two bets in League One round 29 this weekend.
