The Premier League is back again and the wheels have started rolling. Here are my best betting picks for Premier League Round 2.
Back At Anfield
Liverpool v AFC Bournemouth
Liverpool were all over Chelsea in the opening minutes at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. They created lots and should perhaps have been two or three goals to the good before Chelsea woke up and started playing. If there’s one thing we know for certain about this Liverpool team, it’s that they will create a lot of very high quality chances. They are vulnerable to giving away space on sloppy turnovers, but I do think that Liverpool will outscore their opponents more often than not.
That’s exactly what I’m betting on here. Bournemouth looked nice and expansive against West Ham on Saturday, where they aimed to pass it out from the back and be brave on the ball. Andoni Iraola has got them playing some nice stuff, but I think it will take a while before it completely clicks into gear.
Liverpool will be better than B’mouth here, surely? I believe so, and in a strong and convincing way. My main bet of the weekend is Liverpool -2 (asian handicap, meaning that our stake is returned if they win by exactly two goals, and we have a winner if they win by three or more) at 1.98. I think the correct price is closer to 1.75.
Two Teams Going For It
Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United
I watched large chunks of Spurs’ game away at Brentford on Sunday, and thought they looked exactly like I expected them to: playing on the front foot and with bravery when they were put under pressure. There’s no reason why they should approach a home against Man United in any other way, especially when we consider that this is Ange Postecoglou’s first home game as Spurs manager. Without Harry Kane, they clearly lack an offensive spark, but players like Maddison, Son and Kulusevski are more than capable of producing glorious attacking moments in the Premier League. I think this is a game that screams goals, and I obey: over 3 (asian) at 2.12.
Saturday Night Football
Manchester City v Newcastle United
After Spurs v Man United, this juicy encounter will kick off to conclude the Premier League Saturday. And my expectations and hopes are huge.
Newcastle United are looking unstoppable. Many people – myself included – had thought that this train would come to its stop at some point, but the Saudi money and Eddie Howe’s brilliant management has simply made sure that the train has gathered even more speed. Beating Aston Villa, who are a challenger for the top 6 this season, by a whopping five goals to one, is colossal. They will travel to the Etihad with a lot of confidence, belief and optimism when Man City host them, themselves coming from a good experience on opening day.
Picking a decent bet for this game proved to be a challenge for me. I expect it to be tight and close, but going against Man City at 1.60 seems foolish, it just does. However… Without Gundogan and Mahrez – who left in the summer – and now De Bruyne out with an injury, my bet for this game is that Newcastle United avoid defeat at 2.45. It’s a bit of a longshot, and City are correct favourites, but City with and without De Bruyne are two different teams. Playing Burnley on opening day is nothing like this game, where they face a much better team.
That concludes my betting preview of Premier League Round 2. Make sure to return again next week!
