How does College Baseball betting Work?

As well as being a feeder for MLB, the College Baseball scene provides great entertainment. It has a huge following and there are some impressive viewing figures for the big ball games!

Betting on college baseball is also popular and Unibet would like to offer some expert advice.

We’ll start with the basics and work upwards. Firstly, there are two questions that need answering.

  1. What are college baseball odds and what do they say?

  2. What college baseball betting options do I have?

What are college baseball odds and what do they say?

Odds clear up two important points.

  • TThe question of probability

  • The amount you will be paid in return for a winning bet

To tell us all about it, here's one of Unibet’s college baseball bets.

This is a game from our sportsbook between ECU and GCU. The East Carolina Pirates take on the Grand Canyon Antelopes. ECU’s odds have a minus symbol in front and that makes them the favorites.

That plus (+) prefix for GCU tells us that they are the underdog. That’s probability right there. East Carolina are the favorites, so they are more likely to win. There is a lesser chance of Grand Canyon winning the game and the bet.

We also needed to know about payouts. The answer to that lies in those numbers.

    • At odds of -240, we would need to bet $240 to win $100.

    • At odds of +195, a stake of 100 Dollars wins $240

  • The stakes are for illustration and you can bet what you like between limits. Don’t worry if your math isn’t too hot; as soon as you type in a stake, your betslip will tell you about potential payouts.

    Public betting in College Baseball

Betting comes with a degree of jargon and we’re here to bust it. One of the phrases you might hear when it comes to NCAA college baseball betting is something about betting with the public. This means to bet on the favorite in a NCAA College Baseball game.

The public assess the match and decide who is the stronger team. They come up with a likely outcome based on probability. The final figures are then decided by our odds setters,

The alternative scenario is to bet against the public by backing the underdog in the ball game. The final decision is yours.

Payouts and probability. That’s odds dealt with. Now we need to look at college baseball bets.

The Different bets You Can Drop on NCAA Baseball

You’ve already seen the match result bet. If you’re new to college baseball betting this is a great place to start. It’s known as the Moneyline and it’s a straight choice between two teams.

Finding the winner may not be easy but we’ll offer some tips a little later. For now, there’s a lot more to get through.

    #1: NCAA College Baseball Runlines

Run line can be described as a winning margin bet on college ball game. We are still looking for the best team, but we want them to win by a minimum number of runs.

Here’s another bet from our college baseball section.

We’ll stay with the college ball game between ECU and GCU. The run line has been set at 1.5. Odds of -186 mean that East Carolina are favorites to win by at least two runs. If you bet on the Pirates, they must win by that minimum margin of two points.

You can also use the run line to bet on the underdog for a ball game. Winning bets will pay at +150 if Grand Canyon win or if they lose by a single run.

#2: Total Runs bets in College Baseball

Runs are crucial to baseball. They make the difference between winning and losing. With all our baseball bets, it’s possible to stake on the total runs in a game and here’s one option.

This is an actual match from the NCAA. The Totals line has been set at nine and there are two options. Do you bet Over or Under the line?

If there are ten runs or more, winning bets pay at odds of +100. A game with eight runs or fewer pays at -121.

But what if there are exactly nine runs? In this case, the bet would be declared a ‘push’ and your stake would be returned.

Total Runs betting allows you to set your own line. That green circle at the bottom of the image is a slider. Move it from left to right and new lines will appear.

We’ve moved things a fraction to set a new line at 8.5. The odds to go Over are -125 while Under 8.5 would pay at +104. This time there is no potential for a Push as there can’t be 8.5 runs exactly.

#3: Props in College Baseball Betting

Prop is short for proposition and it’s a bet on something that might happen in a game. Props get separated into two sections.

There are game props which might include:
      .
    • Total Runs by Each Team

    • Total Runs - Odd or Even?

Then there are player props which focus on an individual’s performance. Number of strikeouts thrown is the most common.

There may not be as many props in college baseball as in the MLB. To find out what’s available, scroll past the different bets and check out the drop-down menus.

#4: Futures in College Baseball Betting

The clue is in the name: This is a look into the future to see what will happen at the end of a season. In college baseball, that means picking an overall champion.

Here are the odds for the winner of the 2022 World Series. The season had already started so the stronger teams had risen to the top. If you were to click on the ‘show more’ button, other colleges would appear.

Before the season starts, the odds will be longer. Futures bets taken in advance will produce higher figures and that’s when many of our customers like to get involved.

    #5: Parlays in College Baseball

Here’s some more jargon to bust: A parlay is a multiple bet that consists of at least two selections. In some parts of the world it’s known as a straight line multiple and that’s quite descriptive.

All of the bets are in a line and they must all win. If one fails, the line is broken and the bet’s a loser.

Parlays can be spread across two or more college baseball games such as this one.

This is a three leg parlay spread across three college ball games in the NCAA and we need all of our teams to win. We’re behind Oregon State, Texas and ECU.

When we type a stake into that betslip, the odds will update. When you choose a stake, the potential payout is made clear. The Place bet button turns yellow and you need to click on this.

The second type of Parlay is a single-game parlay.

Within a single college baseball game you could pick two or more bets. For example, you could pick Oregon State to win and Over 8.5 runs. The choice is yours but remember the point about all bets needing to win.

Tips and Strategies for College Baseball Betting

Before we say goodbye, we’d like to offer some advice. Having told you all about college baseball bets, it would be unfair to walk away now.

We can’t guarantee any winners, but we have been involved with baseball since 1997. There’s a lot of knowledge available and we hope some of these tips will help.

#Tip 1: Listen to the Voice of the People

When it comes to betting on college ball games, you don’t have to bet with the public, but you should listen to what they have to say. Remember that probability is in play here. The very definition of probability suggests that one event is more likely to happen.

The public has identified a favorite. You now need to decide whether to bet with them. Probability isn’t an exact science and the underdog could win. So, how do you decide?
Jump on to our second tip to find out!

#Tip 2: How to Make up Your own Mind

You could just go with the public opinion. The strategy may work but we’d be happier if you did your own research. Here are some points to look for.

    • Form
    • Head-to-Head Results
    • Injuries and Absences

Current form is one of the best possible indicators when you’re look for some intel for betting on college baseball. It won’t offer a guarantee, but it shows which college baseball team is on a winning run and who is on a losing streak.

Head to head results can certainly be useful. Have the teams already met this season? Previous results can be a good indicator moving forward.

Injuries and other absences from the field can weaken a playing roster. Team news can be harder to find at college level, but you should be aware of any issues that could affect the game.

#Tip 3: Decide on your Preferred College Baseball Bets

You’ve seen the list of bets you can drop in college baseball, but which do you prefer? Some of our customers like a bit of everything while others will focus on a specific type.

We recommend you to stick to moneylines if you’re not familiar with college baseball betting. It’s the perfect place to put that knowledge to the test. It also asks you to make a decision between just two possible outcomes.

Will Team A or Team B win it?

As you get more experienced with your college baseball betting, you can start to look at alternatives. Run Line changes the odds but it’s not just about winning the game. The size of the winning margin separates winning bets from the losers.

Prop bets require analysis into other areas. Scoring stats will become important. You’ll also need to check a player’s record if you’re staking on the pitchers.

Now we come onto parlays. We’ve seen how odds increase but remember that there is higher exposure. All of those picks need to win for the bet to pay out.

Take some time, study the options and decide what type of bettor you are.

#Tip 4: Hunt for some college baseball betting offers and promos!

We’d like you to keep in touch. We genuinely value your custom because we know that you have a choice. In return, we will give you excellent odds and we’ll add some value through offers and promotions for college baseball betting.
