How Does UFC Betting Work?

Ultimate Fighting Championship: It’s the biggest organization within the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. It’s also the area where MMA attracts the most interest on our sportsbook.

UFC contains the best athletes in the game and more viewers tune into the big events. If you’re considering it from a betting standpoint, we’d like you to read on.

If you’re just starting out, this information will be essential. Even if you’ve been betting on UFC for a while, there should be some useful advice in this round up.

But we’ll start with the basics:

What are UFC odds and what information do they provide?
What UFC betting options do I have?

Let’s cover them in order. UFC Odds tell us two things:

  1. The probability of an event happening such as one fighter beating another.
  2. How much you will be paid if your UFC bet wins. correctly

This is an actual bet from our UFC sportsbook.

It’s a match up between Alex da Silva and Joseph Solecki. Each fighter has odds next to their name but they have different prefixes. Solecki’s numbers start with a minus symbol and this means he is the favorite.

Da Silva, with a + symbol in front of his odds, is the underdog. We’re seeing probability in action right there. The odds tell us that Joseph Solecki is a stronger fighter and has a higher chance of winning.

Favorites won’t always win but the probability element has been taken care of. Now, what about the second question - how much will we win?

For this fight, winning bets on Joseph Solecki will pay $100 for every $230 staked. Those betting on Alex da Silva receive $178 for every 100 Bucks staked if he wins.

Probability and payments. That’s why odds are here but who decides what the numbers should be?

Public Betting in the UFC

Ever heard of the phrase ‘Betting with the Public?’ If not, don’t worry, it’s a simple bit of betting jargon. The public work with the power of probability and they will establish a favorite and an underdog.

Once that happens, our odds setters step in and confirm the final odds. Now it’s up to you to either:

  • Bet with the public and back the favorite or,
  • Bet against the public and get behind the underdog

We’ll give you some advice on this a little later on.

What are the different types of bets in UFC betting?

We’ve shown you one of these: The Moneyline bet is for the winner of the UFC fight. It’s not always easy to pick that winner but it’s a simple bet to understand. There is no scope for the draw here so you need to select between two bets.

Will Fighter A or Fighter B win?

If you’re new to UFC betting, we recommend starting with the Moneyline. If you’re ready to move on, so are we:

#1: Total Rounds bets in UFC Betting

UFC fights can last for three whole rounds. They can also finish inside rounds 1, 2 or 3. With the totals rounds betting option, you can speculate on how long you think the fight will last.

In this example, the round line has been set at 2.5. If you think that the fight will go the distance, you should bet Over the line. If you think there will be an early conclusion, Under 2.5 is the way to go.

A fight that goes the distance or finishes in the third round will pay winning bets at -265. If it finishes in the first or second round, wins are paid at odds of +190.

Here, in our game from Taiwan, the -1.5 figure next to the Monkeys means they are favorites to win by at least two runs. If you bet on that option, a victory by two runs or more will pay out at +110.

#2: Method of Victory bets in UFC Betting

There are a number of ways in which a UFC fight can finish. Knockouts are the most dramatic but disqualifications, submissions and technical knockouts can end a bout early. The fight could also go the distance and be settled by submission.

Method of Victory betting allows you to speculate on this. UFC betting options here will include.

  • Fighter A to win by Knockout or TKO
  • Fighter A to win by submissionFighter A to win by decision

The same three options will then appear for Fighter B.

Study the records of the two fighters involved and then make a pick from the available bets.`

#3: Round Betting in UFC Betting

Round betting allows you to pick a fighter to win and bet on the round in which you think the fight will end. This can be a good bet if you spot a pattern among their stats.

For example, if they like to end a fight early, Fighter A in Round One could be the way to go. If most of their fights go the distance, a bet by Decision in the Method of Victory bet may be a better choice.

#4: UFC Parlays

What’s the definition of a parlay? This is simply a multiple bet. It must have at least two UFC nets and all of them have to win for the bet to payout.

Parlays can use a combination of UFC bets from the same fight. The other type of parlay combines bets across two or more fights in the UFC.

Here’s an example:

This is a 3-leg parlay involving three separate UFC bouts. Here, we are betting on Tony Gravely, Jeffrey Molina and Erin Blanchfield all to win. As each pick is added to the betslip, the UFC odds are updated.

When you type in a stake, the potential payout appears. Nothing will happen until you click on that Place Bet button. So, if it all looks good, click away.

Now here’s an option for a Parlay within a single UFC fight;

In this UFC Strawweight encounter, we have gone for Sam Hughes to win and Under 2.5 rounds. The odds update and, when we input our preferred stake, the Place bet button will turn yellow.

Remember the balance with Parlays: The UFC odds increase but so does your exposure. Payouts can be higher, but it only takes one of those bets to lose and the whole stake loses with it.

Tips And Strategies to Help you with UFC Betting

We’ve been involved in UFC and MMA betting since 1997. There’s a big knowledge bank here at Unibet and we’re happy for you to tap into it. We can offer no cast iron guarantees when it comes to winning but this advice should certainly help.

#Tip 1: Remember the Public and Probability

When it comes to betting on UFC fights we don’t want you to blindly bet with the public, but it is worth remembering the part they play. Probability is key and the betting community uses this to identify a favorite and an underdog.

The majority has picked the stronger fighter. The public have also spotted the favorites in all the UFC bets listed above.

You can bet with the public and opt for the favorite. They may have a higher chance of winning and you may win your bet. You could bet against the public and get behind the underdog. Probability is in evidence but the best path is to make up your own mind.

#Tip 2: Crunching the Stats

We are all individuals. It’s a famous line from a film and it’s true. The public has spoken but you should be making your own decisions. How do you do that? Through thorough research.

Here are some things to look for:

  • Overall career records
  • Current form
  • Head to head results

Career records in the UFC are easy to access. The ‘Tale of the Tape’ compares the records of the two fighters on show. Based on that information, you can start to make a decision when you’re about to drop a bet on a UFC fight.

Recent form will provide a stronger indicator. Are the fighters gaining some momentum with a string of wins? Is one competitor coming into the contest following a run of losses? Career stats are important but recent form offers better insight.

Have the fighters met before? In all combat sports, there are rematches and trilogy series. If two opponents are providing thrills and entertainment, the fans and promoters want to see them back in the Octagon.

If there are head to head results, take a look to see who is coming out on top. It’s not a guarantee for future fights but it’s all useful information.

#Tip 3: Find your Favorite Bets in the UFC

It’s worth taking some time to see which UFC bets appeal to you the most. We’ve listed the UFC betting options here and you may already have an idea. If not, here is some advice.

If you are new to the sport or to betting period, we suggest starting with the Moneyline. Finding winners isn’t always easy but this is a simple question. Which of those two fighters will win?

Using the research that we mentioned, you can help to decide.

If you’re very familiar with MMA then you might want to bet on Method of Victory or others. These require deeper analysis. If you find that a fighter is winning most of their contests via knockout, you have a clue right there.

Finally, there’s the question of parlays.

We’ve seen how these can increase odds. This factor makes parlays a popular choice, but you should remember the balance. With higher odds comes greater exposure. The payouts will be higher when they land. But it only takes one of those selections to fail and the bet is lost.

Consider parlays carefully before you get on board.

#Tip 4: Allow Unibet to Boost your Value

We are crazy about UFC odds and know that we have to be on top of our own game. These are competitive numbers but there are ways to boost your value.

Unibet publish a welcome offer to get things started. Once that’s been used, there are other promotions for eligible customers, subject to ts and cs.

We don’t want you to miss these: You can opt in for notifications and this will help you keep in touch. If you don’t want to be notified, just remember to check the promotions page on our website.
