How does baccarat work?
Baccarat is a historic card game that has been played extensively for centuries.
The French took to the game with great enthusiasm in the 19th century.
As you’ll see as you play through, some of the terms attached to the game are in French.
Don’t worry if you don’t know your poisson from your poison - although we would recommend learning the difference between the two if you are eating out in France.
The terms are easy to follow.
Standard decks of 52 cards are used in the gameplay.
The game of online baccarat involves the player and the dealer.
An unusual twist to this game means that players can either bet on their own score, or that of the banker.
There is also a third bet for the tie.
The object of each hand is to hit a perfect score of 9 or get as close to that as possible. Whoever achieves that - player or banker - scoops the pot.

How to play baccarat online
We know that 9 is the ideal score but how do you get there?
Baccarat employs a unique scoring system which works like this:
Cards 2 through to 9 are worth their face value
Aces are worth 1 point
The 10 and the Picture Cards - J, Q and K - have no value and will not count to the overall score.
Two cards are dealt initially.
If the total exceeds 9, the first digit is dropped.
For example, 8 and 7 cards total 15.
The initial 1 will drop so the score is 5.
There are subtle differences depending on which version of the game you are playing but each follows a similar system.
Two cards are dealt to each competitor.
Remember that the objective is to hit a score of 9 or get as close as possible to this number.
If either the player or the dealer hits 9 at this point, they will stand.
No more cards will be dealt to that hand.
If the score isn’t a perfect 9, there are additional rules relating to drawing or standing.
A draw means that you take another card while standing means that you stick with your score and no more cards are dealt.
The rules include the following stipulations:
If the player’s total is 5 or less, they will draw a third card.
If the player’s total is 6 or 7, they will stand.
If the banker’s total is 7, they will stand.
If the banker’s total is 2 or less, they will draw a third card.
If the banker’s total is 6, they will draw a third card but only if the player’s third card is a 6 or 7.
If all this sounds complicated don’t worry.
Like all card games, Baccarat takes a bit of getting used to.

#Tip 2:
Backing the banker
Remember that you can bet on either the player’s or the banker’s score.
The way that the scoring works means that the banker has a marginal, house edge.
Wins will always vary but, because of that house edge, one widely used strategy advises to always bet with the banker.
Clearly it’s not a 100% guarantee.
Results will differ from player to player but this is a tip that may work for you.
#Tip 3:
Stay in control of your bankroll
A bankroll is another term for your account balance.
We want you to enjoy playing online baccarat but we also fully support responsible gambling.
Never play through your entire bankroll in any one session.
This piece of advice is also endorsed by experienced online players.
In general, it’s recommended that you look to play with 10% of your bankroll in any one session.
Before you take your seat, do the math and work out that 10% figure.
The important thing now is to stick to that amount and don’t go over it.
If you are having a bad day at the table, don’t be tempted to chase your losses.
If you’ve had some wins, don’t expect these to continue indefinitely.
Staying in charge of your bankroll is an important lesson for any casino game.

#Tip 4:
Be wary of the tie
There is a third betting option in online baccarat.
You can bet on the tie.
Unlike blackjack where a drawn hand goes to the banker, the tie is a legitimate result in this game.
A tie pays at odds of 8-1.
Sounds tempting doesn’t it?
Those numbers also reflect the relative rarity of this happening.
A tie may be an option for a small side bet.
It will happen but it’s a rare event.
